Todd Ashman is an innovative brewer and barreling pioneer who has been drawing customers to FiftyFifty Brewing Co. since 2006. Ashman's invaluable contributions to the brewery's success have made FiftyFifty Brewing Co. and Ashman household names in the brewing industry. From the beginning, Ashman's expertise, talent and creativity have been the driving force behind the brewery.
Ashman was born and raised in Truckee, California, and attended Truckee High School and attended Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Communications. During his time at Sierra Nevada College, Ashman became interested in homebrewing and began experimenting with different ingredients and strategies, which piqued his interest in the Art of Craft Beer.
Ashman began his career as a brewer at the now-defunct Espresso Bar & Tap in Truckee, where he started to learn the basics of fermentation and barrel-aging. During his time at Espresso, Ashman also worked on the bottle line packaging beer and cider. After his stint at Espresso, Ashman began working at the now-defunct Strawberry Graphics in Incline Village, a local design studio where he worked with other local artists to design labels for breweries such as FiftyFifty Brewing Co.
This experience working in design inspired Ashman to pursue his own brewing interests and led him to River Dance Brewing Company, where he was hired as a brewer in 2006. River Dance was a small brewery located in Truckee that had begun experimenting with barrel-aging beer. Ashman took to the barrel-aging process quickly and embraced the complexity of the process.
Ashman enjoyed working at River Dance, but he eventually moved on and began brewing at FiftyFifty Brewing Company in 2006. It was at FiftyFifty that Ashman would make his mark as one of the original barrel-aging pioneers. Since then, he has become renown in the barrel-aging and craft beer world for his ability to develop flavorful beer-aging recipes that have helped put FiftyFifty Brewing Co. on the map as a leader in craft brewing.
Since joining the FiftyFifty Brewing Co. team in 2006, Ashman has been instrumental in the brewery's development and long-term success. As the head brewer at FiftyFifty Brewing Co., Ashman has been able to take advantage of the brewery's unique location and ample access to high-quality barrels. With a commitment to experimentation and a passion for flavor creation, Ashman has been able to take barrel-aging to new heights.
